The Creator is Greater Than the Created

When I was a kid my brothers and I had a large Lego collection. I don’t know if they are near as popular today, but back then I know that all of my friends had them by the thousands. It seemed that Lego’s were on our Christmas list every year. We had a Tupperware box full of them with all different shapes and sizes. Whenever it came time for us to construct something out of these Lego’s we would dump them all out in the floor so that we could easily find every piece that we needed. Sometimes we would follow an instruction booklet and other times we would build something from our imaginations. When our “Lego Monster” was finally finished I remembering looking upon it with great
satisfaction and joy. I had created that. Hours before there was just a floor full of colorful blocks and now, I had given value and purpose to my creation. I had shown my superiority over the Lego’s.

While using Lego’s as an example of creation may be a bit silly; I believe it is safe to say that you can understand the point. A creator is greater than his creation. Sadly, we live in a world where so many of the created think that they are better than their Creator. Now, they may not come out and say such a thing, but it is clearly shown in their actions. The fourth word of the book of Genesis introduces us to our Creator and the rest of that book (and the whole bible) show us His power.

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Have you ever truly stopped to think about this? The same God that created all of the heavens and all of the earth created us! Genesis 1:27 reads, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” If God is the creator of both man and woman, and the Creator is greater than His creation, then why are so many bringing into question how God created them?

In Psalms 139:14 David wrote, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” David understood that he was wonderfully made by a Creator that was greater than himself. How can man, who was created from the dust of the ground (Gen. 2:7) and woman who was created from man (Gen. 2:21-23) think that they can do a better job of deciding what they are than He who created them? The Creator gives purpose and value to creation. If we read through all of Genesis chapter one we can see that God created nothing without a purpose. Who are we to challenge Him?

The issue of gender identification is not up to us, as humans, to discern. The Creator made us in His image. Nothing that we feel or want can change His work. Sadly, I feel, a large portion of this comes from the idea of people in this world wanting to be “different.” There is nothing wrong with being different in this world. In fact, God calls upon all of His children to be different from the world. In 2 Corinthians 6 He tells us, “….Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers” and further He says, “…come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.” The difference here is that we are to be different not so people will look at us, but so that people will look at Him. People in our world say, “I want to be different, but I don’t want to be treated differently.” This just makes no sense. As a Christian we know that we are different, but we know, full well, that we will be treated differently and that is just fine (John 15:18-21).

God is the Great Creator. His work is masterful and it is without mistake. The moment we begin to question God’s ability to make things, is the moment we begin to question His power and ability to be our God. Neither of which is a wise decision. Thank God that the Creator is greater than His creation, for I know it is a task that we could not handle. May God bless you this week and may you always remember that God is Greater!
