Jesus Christ, An Example of Total Commitment

To find an example of total commitment one need not look farther than Jesus Christ.
HE is everything total commitment stands for. The great apostle Paul stated “And being
found in fashion as a man, He humbles himself, and became obedient unto death, even the
death of the cross” (Philippians 2:5). Jesus stated in John 8:29, “For I do always those
things that please Him.” In these two passages is a revelation of complete devotion to God.
Jesus serves as our example in every facet of life including the principle of absolute and total
commitment. The Apostle Paul declared, “For even hereunto were ye called: because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps:” (I Peter
2:21). John the beloved apostle states it well, “He that saith he abideth in Hi ought himself
so to walk, even as He walked” (I John 2:6).

Are YOU totally committed to God? This is certainly a sobering question, for many
think they are when in reality they are not. This is evident in a variety of avenues. Let us ask
a few questions. Do you pray regularly (I Thessalonians 7:17)? Do you look forward to
worship and assembling when the saints meet (Acts 20:7; Hebrews 10:25)? Are you
involved in the Lord’s work (I Corinthians 15:58? Do you minister to those in need (James
1:27; Matthew 25:41-45)? DO you tell others about Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20)? An
honest answer to these questions will reveal how committed you really are. Some claim
complete devotion to God, by their actions they deny it. They are neglectful in attending
worship and Bible Study. They seldom if ever mention the name of Christ or invite someone
to worship. Seldom if ever are attempts made to minister to those in need. If one is going to
claim total commitment, he or she should be willing to pay the price.

What is the cure for a lack of total commitment? Several can be mentioned, but let
me mention only a couple of things that will correct the problem. First of all truly love God,
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy
soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37). To love God is to do what He says (John
14:15; 23-24). The second ingredient is to seek firs the kingdom of God and His
righteousness (Matthew 6:33). When one loves God as he or she should and seeks the
kingdom of God and His righteousness first, total commitment will take care of itself.

ARE YOU TOTALLY COMMITTED?
