What Does Jesus Really Mean To You?
We often sing a song that carries the words “He is my everything He is my all”. Does this describe your attitude toward him? Paul the great apostle is a good example of this mind set, “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ” Phil 3:7- 8. Stephen is another example of this attitude when he proclaimed the gospel to the people and was stoned to death Acts chapter seven. The first century church
endured a great deal of harassment and persecution for the name of Christ, because to them Jesus meant everything. How is it possible to know what Jesus means to you? You can tell the attitude of a person by his actions or reactions toward a person. The same principle holds true with Jesus. Jesus himself demonstrated the attitude we should have toward him by the attitude he expressed toward his father. “That
the world may know that I love the father, as the father hath given me commandment even so I do” John 14:31. It is by your actions that the world sees what Jesus really means to you.
Your life when you are away from church assemblies is what reveals
what Jesus means to you. We often sing the song “Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in you”. Can it be said that his beauty is really seen in us? What about on the Job? Does it show what Jesus means to you by the way you talk or by the life you walk. When a supposed Christian goes to a party or gathering of the company they work for, do they participate in social drinking? Remember Proverbs 20:1. When at work do you use language that is unbecoming of a Christian? Do you tell filthy jokes, or listen laughingly at them? We would do well to remember that we will give an account for our words Matthew 12:36-37. At sporting events what is your demeanor like? Is it one of control and respect or one that gets carried away in the heat of the moment? The entire life of a Christian is to be consistent with the gospel of Christ Philippians 1:27.
Can the world see what Jesus means to you by the way you worship?
Worship was and is important to Jesus. It was the custom of Jesus to worship Luke 14:16. Christians should be committed to worship Hebrews 10:25. The early church was steadfast in their worship Acts 2:42. Can people tell by the way you worship, what Jesus really means to you? Is it not strange that some things that keeps one out of worship, will not keep them out of work, from a ball game, shopping spree, hunting or fishing trip or other things that we really want to do. It is sometime witnessed in some Christians that the only thing that will keep them out of worship is sever sickness. They will be in the assembly of the saints when it is obvious, they do feel like being there, but there they sit in respectful worship. On the other hand, others will attend when it is convenient or something else does not interfere. When Jesus means what he should to a person worship will not be an inconvenience but a privilege. A person will not find reason to not worship but for opportunities to worship. It is not a matter of simply what the Lord required but also the attitude of the individual toward Jesus.
Is it evident what Jesus means to you by the way you share him. The
world lies in wickedness 1 John 5:19. Jesus came to seek and save the lost Luke 19:10. The gospel is God’s power to save lost humanity Romans 1:16. It is to be proclaimed to every creature Mark 16:16. To do so is to preach Jesus Acts 8:34. This is to be carried out by the church Ephesians 3:9-11. Christians make up the church and share in the responsibility to do what they are able to reach out to the lost Matthew 28:20. Do you demonstrate what Jesus means to you by doing what you can to reach out to those you know are lost.
Jesus was deeply concerned for the lost and we are to walk in his steps 1 Peter 2:21. Is it obvious what Jesus means to you?
