God is Greater than Our Generation

As a teacher and student of United States history I love to learn about former generations of Americans. It is fascinating to think of what life must have been like for some of America’s earlier generations. Of course, the “Greatest Generation” comes to mind. I will never fully understand what those men and women went through. Living during the Great Depression and then going on to fight in World War II. I am blessed not to have lived that rough of a life, but at times I almost envy their life experiences. Those men and women understood the value of things far more than we do today. They understood what a hard day’s work looked like and took nothing for granted.

As time passes and we move from one generation to the next many things change. Culture and society changes. Laws change and for some values change. However, there is one thing throughout time that has always remained the same. From one generation to the next God and His truth have remained constant. Those who lived in the “Greatest Generation” as well as those who lived well before had the opportunity to hear the same message that we have at our disposal today. God’s word truly has passed on, unchanging, from generation to generation.

In 1 Peter 1:24-25 we read, “For all flesh is as grass, and the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.” No matter what may come and go in this world God is the same throughout all generations. Psalms 100:5 says, “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.”

The fact that God is greater than our generation should provide us with so much comfort. Not only are we judged by the same standard of those before us and those who will follow after, but it is a reminder to us that God and His truth are forever unchanging. He is the same morning, noon, and night. He is the same now that He has forever been. How wonderful to know that we serve a God who spans all generations. There is nothing He has not seen or heard and if His children will continually live by His unchanging standard then they will have a home in heaven with many generations of Christians. May God bless you this week and may you always remember that God is Greater!
