God is Greater than Our Wants

We live in a society where everyone is telling everyone what they want. “I want this” or “I want that.” It is okay to have wants, but to often we impose our wants onto God. We like to tell God what we want and then we get upset when He doesn’t “come through” for us. We also, like to assume that because we want it that God must want it too. This is a huge mistake. In Isaiah 55:8 it says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways.”

Often I like to ask myself this simple question: “According to whose standard?” Whose standard am I living my life by and how is my life matching up to that standard? We see that Jesus lived by God’s standard (John 5:30) so why shouldn’t we? When Jesus showed us a model prayer in Matthew 6 notice He said “thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven” (verse 10). It is all about God’s will!

Too often we get concerned with our wants and what makes us happy. Starting this week let’s realize that our wants are only really important when they are in-line with God’s will. People say, “It makes me happy,” but what makes you and I happy is irrelevant if it makes God unhappy. People may argue, “God wants me to be happy.” No, God wants you to be saved! May God Bless you this week and may you always remember that God is Greater!
